Overview
The Coastal Cliff Trail offers a spectacular journey along some of the most dramatic shoreline scenery in the Pacific Northwest. This 3-day coastal trek combines rugged cliff-top walking, pristine beach exploration, and stunning ocean vistas that will take your breath away.
Walking along ancient sea cliffs, you'll witness the raw power of the Pacific Ocean as waves crash against towering rock formations. The trail winds through coastal rainforest, emerges onto windswept headlands, and descends to secluded coves accessible only on foot. Marine wildlife sightings are common—watch for gray whales during migration season, sea lions basking on rocky outcrops, and countless seabirds nesting on cliff faces.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Lighthouse Point to Seal Cove
Begin your adventure at the historic Lighthouse Point, where you'll receive a comprehensive safety briefing and trail orientation. The first section follows the cliff edge through wind-sculpted Sitka spruce forest before opening to panoramic ocean views. Descend to Seal Cove for lunch, watching harbor seals from a respectful distance. The afternoon brings moderate climbing to reach our first campsite perched above a dramatic sea stack.
Distance: 14 km | Elevation: +320m / -180m
Day 2: Seal Cove to Hidden Beach
Today's hike features the trail's most dramatic scenery. Cross the famous suspension bridge spanning a 60-meter gorge with churning surf below. Navigate through a sea cave accessible only at low tide, emerging onto a boulder beach lined with tidepools teeming with life. The afternoon traverse along exposed headlands offers the best whale-watching opportunities. Camp at Hidden Beach, a pristine sandy cove surrounded by towering cliffs.
Distance: 16 km | Elevation: +350m / -340m
Day 3: Hidden Beach to Cape Sanctuary
The final day begins with a sunrise beach walk before ascending through old-growth coastal forest. Visit a protected seabird nesting colony from a viewing platform, then complete the journey along the clifftops to Cape Sanctuary. Celebrate your accomplishment with a seafood lunch in the picturesque fishing village before transfer back to your starting point.
