Overview
The Alpine Lake Circuit is our signature backcountry trekking experience, designed for adventurers seeking an immersive wilderness journey through spectacular mountain terrain. Over seven days, you'll traverse high alpine passes, camp beside crystal-clear glacial lakes, and witness some of the most breathtaking landscapes the Canadian Rockies have to offer.
This challenging but rewarding trek combines physical exertion with moments of profound natural beauty. Each day brings new vistas—from hanging glaciers and wildflower meadows to rugged peaks and pristine watersheds. You'll develop backcountry skills, deepen your connection with wilderness, and return home transformed by the experience.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Trailhead to Base Camp
Begin with a scenic drive to the trailhead, followed by a moderate 12km hike through old-growth forest to our first campsite beside a rushing creek. Evening orientation and gear check.
Day 2: Ascent to High Camp
Climb through subalpine meadows to our high camp at 2,200m elevation. Stunning panoramic views reward the challenging 900m ascent.
Day 3: Lake Traverse
Circle a stunning alpine lake, crossing boulder fields and snowfields. Optional summit attempt for experienced hikers. Wildlife viewing opportunities.
Day 4: Pass Crossing
Cross the highest pass of the trek at 2,650m. Descend into a pristine valley with turquoise glacial lakes. Camp lakeside.
Day 5: Rest and Exploration
Shorter mileage day for recovery. Explore surrounding area, practice wilderness skills, relax by the lake. Optional fishing.
Day 6: Valley Trek
Descend through changing ecosystems—alpine tundra to forest. Long day covering 18km to our final backcountry camp.
Day 7: Return to Civilization
Final 10km hike out to trailhead. Celebratory meal in town before transfer back to Banff.

Fitness Requirements
This is a CHALLENGING trek requiring excellent physical fitness. Participants should be comfortable hiking 10-18km per day while carrying a 15-18kg backpack over varied terrain including steep ascents/descents, boulder fields, and possible snow crossings.
Recommended preparation: Regular hiking with weighted pack, cardiovascular training, and strength conditioning for 3+ months prior to trip.
